BC Intérieur Sarl 40th anniversary

Embracing library innovation since 1984

For four decades, BC Intérieur Sarl has been at the forefront of transforming library spaces across France and beyond. Founded with a vision to revolutionize library interiors, we began our journey in 1984 as "BC Bureau d’Etudes pour Bibliothèques," pioneering comprehensive interior design solutions. Our inaugural projects at the Museum of Science and Industry in Paris and the expansive Mériadeck Library in Bordeaux set the stage for our commitment to excellence.

Development through the years

The late 1980s marked a significant turning point for BC Intérieur Sarl, propelling us from a promising start to a recognized leader in library design. Our vision was to be a “Total solution provider” through interior design of the full interior and to offer all the furniture needed, including e.g., seating, tables and children furniture. By 1989, with the establishment of our own internal drawing office and employment of our first interior architect, we firmly established our position as innovators within the industry, setting standards for integrated design solutions in library furniture.

Throughout our journey, we have forged enduring partnerships with visionary architects and institutions. Key projects such as Médiathèque d’Arles (Espace Van Gogh) in 1989, Malraux in Strasbourg in 2007, PierreVives Montpellier in 2012 (London shelving, seating, children library and acoustics) and Alexis de Tocqueville in Caen-la-Mer in 2017 (custom made architect shelvings and counters, adapted to meet BCI standards) are just examples of projects and partnerships with significant impact on our development.

Collaborations on landmark projects have not only showcased our adaptability but also highlighted our ability to meet diverse client needs. These collaborations have been instrumental in shaping our evolution and defining our reputation for delivering excellence in library interiors.

Evolution of products and design philosophy

Our design philosophy has always centered on longevity, quality and functionality. Despite organizational shifts, this ethos remains integral, bolstering our resilience and cohesion through decades of growth and change. While our foundational shelves and dimensions have remained consistent since 1984, our commitment to innovation has led to continuous refinement and enhancement. We were among the pioneers in our industry to create round shelving systems in both steel and wood. Furthermore, we introduced concealed castors on our furniture not just for aesthetic appeal but also for enhanced functionality. Our children's furniture featuring animals has also inspired many others in the world of libraries.

We take pride in pioneering solutions that stand the test of time, offering not only timeless design but also adaptability to evolving technological and educational needs. Our team's collective expertise and passion for innovation have been the driving force behind our ability to adapt and thrive in a dynamic industry landscape.

Looking forward, sustainability remains at the heart of BC Intérieur Sarl’s future direction. As we celebrate our 40th anniversary, we reaffirm our commitment to reducing our environmental footprint while advancing design innovation. Our dedication to creating enduring, high-quality solutions continues to drive us forward, ensuring that we remain a trusted partner in shaping the libraries of tomorrow.
