The new local library is so much more than just the local library!
In 2013 the library of Schilderswijk, the Hague, was closed down, due to public savings. The closing of the library revealed the relevance this library had for its community.
The current library not only offers books but offers a lot of social services to its community. The library integrates a lot of working spaces, it offers help applying for a job and helps with governmental questions.
It also has an educational function. Young people can work in the media lab and tutors can find classrooms in the library.
The design of the library has been made by the archtiects +31ARCHITECTS and Millie’s. The interior is spacious and light. It is a combination of custom furniture and standard Uniflex library shelving. But even the library shelving is used in a way so that it almost looks like custom furniture.
