Homely library in monumental context

The history of 't Gasthoes in Horst aan de Maas goes as far back as to the year 1475. The building served as a shelter for foreigners and pilgrims, and even as a hospital and hiding place during the war.

Today the former chapel of 't Gasthoes is put to a more modern use. It is now a multifunctional centre including a library. Contemporary library shelving systems have been placed between the historic building elements and are mounted on plinths for easy access.

The soft setting and sleek wooden casing create an intimate, homely atmosphere in a monumental context. It is Horst aan de Maas' living room, a cultural meeting place where people and associations come together.
