Accessible and connected to nature
The Capilano branch of Edmonton Public Library opened in a brand new building and location that boasts serene views and plenty of natural light. The location is both accessible and connected to nature. The library has ground floor access which will help address accessibility issues faced at the old facility on the second floor of Capilano Mall.
In addition to traditional library facilities Capilano library gives users the opportunity to become creaters and not just consuming media in the library. In the new makerspace they can experiment and create with a 3D-printer, vinyl cutter and sewing machine.
Capilano library, designed by Patkau Architects Inc., is a 2020 recipient of the AIA/ALA Library Building Award. The American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the American Library Association (ALA) are partnering to honor the best in library architecture and design.
