Library in new premises

In the spring of 2023, Sykkylven Library welcomed visitors to its new premises. Previously, the library was in a place where most people did not pass by casually. In 2020, the municipality purchased an old bank building in the centre of town and used it as a temporary vaccination site. As the renewal of the library's lease approached, the municipality decided to save on future rental expenses and chose to move the library to the newly acquired building.

The move involved extensive renovations and a particularly busy transition period with temporary library premises. By May 2023, the new Sykkylven Library finally opened its doors.

The Norwegian design team at BS Eurobib preserved the old bank vault to retain a piece of the building's history. It has now become a cozy reading room for children and has maintained a forest theme that is part of the rest of the children's section.

The black shelves in the centre of the room were supplied by BS Eurobib, but to make use of the high ceiling, all the light-colored shelves along the walls were custom designed. The library has become a popular spot to sit with friends, play games, read newspapers, study and more. Additionally, the library has extended its opening hours, making it possible to visit on weekends as well.
