A cultural centre designed for the future

Agnes Cultural Centre in Gävle is a visionary centre that opened in 2024. It stands as an architectural tribute to digital innovation and cultural diversity, located in the very heart of Gävle. The centre represents a major boost for Gävle – the largest investment the city has seen in the past 25 years.

At the very core of Agnes Cultural Centre lies its library – a dynamic hub for knowledge and creativity. Designed to inspire, the library offers a wide variety of seating and reading areas, dedicated children’s and young adult sections as well as modern study rooms. New to this facility are VR rooms, a podcast studio and other creative spaces not available in the former library.

The interior design creates a harmonious flow throughout the building, contributing to a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Its design is a fusion of aesthetics and functionality, where materials and technology work in harmony to create an enriching user experience. The extensive collection of books and digital resources is supported by a dedicated team of librarians and facilitators, ensuring the library remains a vibrant cornerstone of local cultural life. The library at Agnes Cultural Centre is not merely a place for borrowing books and reading – it is an innovative environment that strengthens the community through learning, creativity and shared experiences.

Petra Jonsson, Director of the library and Agnes Cultural Centre, comments:
“We are incredibly proud to have fulfilled the vision behind Agnes Cultural Centre. Visitors consistently praise both the building and its interiors. Our hope is that the centre and its library will continue to feel both timeless and modern for many years to come.”
