A stunning transformation

The brand-new Fivemiletown Library has now opened to the public. with a modern transformation aimed at better serving the community. The beautiful new space has turned the library into a vibrant, flexible hub with dedicated spaces for reading, studying, and community events.

Redesigned to support the community by providing spaces for reading, studying and hosting events. It is a great space for anyone looking for a place not quite the office or working from home, a productive environment to work or study in. The design offers a better flow, sightlines and ease of travel throughout the library. Even better just a beautiful space to connect with other local people or find your next good read.

Inside, visitors will find a spacious ground floor featuring dedicated areas for adults and children, a computer study zone ideal for work or digital learning, and comfortable new furniture throughout. The library is equipped with energy-efficient LED lighting, creating a bright and welcoming atmosphere and a Changing Places facility has been installed.

The first floor houses the Mount Stewart Suite, a flexible meeting space designed to accommodate a range of community events and gatherings. Equipped with adjustable lighting and a modern interactive digital screen, the suite provides a practical and professional setting, making it ideal for meetings, presentations and more.

The library’s design reflects Libraries NI’s commitment to sustainability, incorporating energy-efficient heating and ventilation systems, double-glazed windows and solar panels. These features will ensure the building is comfortable all year-round while minimising its environmental footprint.

Visitors arriving by car or bike will appreciate the thoughtful layout, with entrances from both the Main Street and the rear carpark which features an EV charging station and a bicycle shed. The garden between the library and the carpark provides a peaceful outdoor space complete with benches, offering a unique place to relax and enjoy the surroundings.

The children’s area design was inspired by the Clogher Valley Railway in Fivemiletown and ensures a sense of place, heritage and community. The enhanced Fivemiletown Library is now a cornerstone of the community, offering a welcoming space for everyone, from students seeking a quiet place to study to families enjoying storytime in the children’s area. By investing in this vital public space, Libraries NI and the Fivemiletown team have demonstrated a commitment to fostering a connected, inclusive community where people can access resources, learn, and just meet up.
