Rugby Library & Makerspace
Rugby Library & Makerspace, United Kingdom
As part of the Warwickshire Framework agreement thedesignconcept ltd. fitted out Rugby Library and introduced a Makerspace.
Works carried out included new shelving & furniture throughout. Our approach to the re-design was to create a space that is functional for all users. Introducing various seating and study positions invites users to enjoy their time in the library with a ’home from home’ feel.
A playground for children, young people and adults
The Children’s area is now a bright and colourful space for kids to spend time with animal chairs, soft seating and cocoons to sit in and enjoy their latest read. A feature chair is also used for story-time and encourages parents to sit with their children and read a good book.
On the mezzanine we zoned the space into distinct areas, making effective use of the entire space. All computers are together with complementary study spaces also available. Desktop power allows users to bring their own devices while high back chairs with writing tablets, positioned at the windows, allows people to work/study in a comfortable setting.
The Makerspace gives the community unique access to a range of digital and making technologies, equipment and facilities to explore new ideas and create in different ways. The space includes: Robotics, 3d printing, sewing and embroidery. The space was created as a place to learn, improve and build on new digital skills to give confidence and inspire people to ’think outside the box’.
Don't take our word for it...
”This was a challenging space with awkward corners and a lot of equipment to fit in. We wanted the new ‘Let’s Make Space’ to look and feel high-tech but not too futuristic. thedesignconcept ltd. rose to the challenge - and the results are attractive, functional and user-friendly and innovative.”
