Reuse with purpose: A library that invites you in

The old library was housed in an outdated building beside a busy highway, with limited parking facilities. It was no longer suitable for functioning as a modern, experience-driven library. The new cultural centre offers much more – in addition to the library, it now includes both a toy library and a baby library, creating meaningful synergies between the different services.

Accessibility has been a key priority in the new library design. The layout has been carefully rethought, allowing the various collections to stand out and support user discovery. The youth section now follows a clear progression from younger to older readers, enhancing both navigation and engagement. For adults, a quiet and inviting area has been created where visitors can explore the collection, study, relax or meet others.

Librarian Heidi Loozen reflects:
“The library has truly become a place where people enjoy staying longer. Visitor feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. They appreciate the light-filled, cosy atmosphere. Reuse of old shelving systems proved to be a real asset – the new furniture complements the existing elements beautifully, resulting in a warm and harmonious whole.”
