Bright new library in Geraardsbergen

Light and space are central elements to the new library in Geraardsbergen. The library is more than just a place to borrow books; it is a space for reading, studying, playing games and much more. Visitors can choose from a variety of seating options: tables and chairs for working or studying, cosy and comfortable reading armchairs to relax in and poufs for quickly consulting a book.

The meeting room, featuring striking curved glass walls, stands out. Small tables and chairs in various colours can be used flexibly for both large and small activities.
Throughout the library, the shelving is kept white to draw all attention to the contents – the books. The contemporary colour palette of the building is reflected in the furniture.

It is a world apart from the old location.

Librarian Paul De Taeye says: “The old library was completely worn out and no longer met the most basic safety and comfort standards. The new library is more spacious and airier, with more seating and study areas. Special attention was paid to providing sufficient rest and seating areas, creating a greater sense of space and achieving uniformity in the design. From the almost unanimously positive reactions, we can conclude that this has been a success.”
