Homely library in Winter Chapel

The new library has now been placed in what was the former monastry and Winter Chapel placed in the centre of Hamme. The renovated building has a lot of charm and the position of the columns and pillars in the chapel have been decisive for the interior design.

White shelving systems have been chosen to emphasize the light in the room. The various shades of blue and green used for seating elements around the library are based on the colours used to represent the municipality of Hamme. The curved lines of the round shelving in the non-fiction section provide the space with a more informal atmosphere.

Librarian Katrien Schroyens is proud: “The library users are very enthusiastic about the new library. Especially the appearance and seating elements are very appealing. A frequently heard reaction is that customers want to stay longer in the library. Thanks to its cosy interior, the library has become a public living room in the center of the municipality.”
