Flöha Public Library, Germany
Converting the historic landmark former cotton mill into a central ensemblefor the town is one of the city of Flöha's most exciting projects. The renovation of the “water works building” resulted in a new residence for the municipal library.
The more interesting the overall project, the more refreshingly different the new library turned out to be. Clear colour accents for the interior design are signals that something young and alive has been created in an old, time-honoured shell. Colourful and backlit acrylic-glass side panels for our RATIO shelving contrast with the industrial architecture of a previous century. Accessible “rest columns” from stretched cloth take the user into his own world and remind of the location's history through the chosen material.
