A library with a commercial feel
After a competitive tender process thedesignconcept won the bid to design and install the new Plymouth Central Library.
Changing premises, the library was to re-open in the heart of the city, surrounded by commercial space. Thedesignconcept were excited to design a library that would be eye-catching and encourage visitors. The design came to life around the statement tree that is found in the children’s area surrounded by brightly coloured furniture and bespoke graphics creating a lively, welcoming environment for all visitors.
In contrast the first floor was designed as a quiet study area, but use of Warhol inspired lighthouse graphics, continues from the ground floor to carry on the design element of the library.
